About the Family Support Program
Migrants SA’s Family Support Program exists to strengthen the emotional, social, and economic foundations that help families thrive. We provide counselling, parenting education, financial and practical support, and community connections — all designed to help families overcome challenges and rebuild stability.
Our team of trained volunteers, social workers, and legal advisors offer compassionate help to migrants, single parents, survivors of domestic violence, and families separated by migration or crisis. Every service is delivered with dignity, respect, and confidentiality.

Free, confidential counselling to help individuals and families process trauma, stress, or loss, with access to professional therapists.

How We Deliver Family Support Effectively
Migrants SA uses an Integrated Family Support Network (IFSN) approach — combining community-based outreach, digital access, and personal care. Our methods ensure that help reaches every family, wherever they are in South Africa.

Local Migrants SA offices and partner NGOs provide walk-in assistance, counselling, and referral support to families in need.

A secure online platform for registering cases, tracking progress, and accessing downloadable resources and forms.

Families can contact trained counsellors anytime for emergency help, advice, or referral — in their preferred language.

Each case is assigned a dedicated support worker to coordinate legal, financial, and emotional aid from start to resolution.

Terms & Conditions — Family Support Program
Eligibility
All migrant families residing in South Africa are eligible to access Family Support Services at no cost. Priority is given to vulnerable households, survivors of violence, single parents, and those facing family separation due to migration or crisis.
Scope of Support
- Includes counselling, parenting education, and mediation services.
- Support extends to basic health, psychosocial, and financial literacy programs.
- Legal support for domestic violence or child protection matters available through Migrants SA Legal Aid channels.
Confidentiality & Data Protection
All client information is kept strictly confidential under South Africa’s POPIA (Protection of Personal Information Act). Data may be shared only with approved partners directly involved in case resolution, and only with the client’s written consent.
Collaboration with Partners
Migrants SA works with shelters, hospitals, social workers, and legal partners to coordinate full family care. Partner organizations are expected to comply with our code of ethics, confidentiality, and anti-discrimination standards.
Exclusions & Limitations
- We cannot intervene in criminal matters unrelated to family protection or social welfare.
- Direct financial aid (cash transfers) is not guaranteed and depends on partner funding availability.
- Pre-existing legal disputes must be referred through our Legal Cover membership channels.
